Kevin Kelly (born in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1952) published The Inevitable: Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future in 2016, a book about the unavoidable trends in the next 20 years. Kevin Kelly is Senior Maverick at Wired, a magazine that he co-founded in 1993. He served as its Executive Editor for its first seven years. He is also founding editor and co-publisher of the popular Cool Tools website, which has been reviewing tools daily since 2003, and co-founder of the ongoing Hackers’ Conference.

Kevin graduated from Westfield High School, Westfield NJ in 1970. He spent one year at the University of Rhode Island but instead of going on with his studies, he began to work as a photographer.

From 1984-1990 Kelly was publisher and editor of the Whole Earth Review, a journal of unorthodox technical news. He was involved with the launch of the WELL, a pioneering online service started in 1985.

His writing has appeared in many national and international publications such as the New York Times, The Economist, Time, Harpers, Science, GQ, Wall Street Journal and Esquire. His photographs have appeared in Life and other national magazines. For speeches he is represented by Stern Speakers.

His books include the best-selling New Rules for the New Economy, the classic book on decentralized emergent systems (translated into 11 languages), Out of Control: The New Biology of Machines, Economic and Social Systems, a graphic novel about robots and angels, The Silver Cord, an oversize catalog of the best of Cool Tools, and his summary theory of technology in What Technology Wants.

His most recent book, The Inevitable: Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future (2016), has become a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. It’s a guide through the twelve technological imperatives that will shape the next twenty or thirty years and transform our lives.
